Isaiah 7:10-17. Yes, we broke with the Mark series in order to tie this Sunday message with the season of Christmas. How many times have I heard this passage read close to Christmas? A lot! Would it surprise you to know that the most original passage in Hebrew speaks of a “young woman” with child, not a “virgin” which was the later translation into Greek? Mark 9:49-50. Looking at this passage from Mark, we explored what “salted by fire” might mean for us today and how being flavored by life’s challenges gives us something to add to the Christmas season ourselves. (Sorry for the delay in uploading!)
This weekend we looked at the passage from Mark 9:42-48 where Jesus says that anything that stands between us and God’s kingdom needs to be removed- his examples include cutting off a hand, foot, or eye if it causes alienation from God.
